Cable Structure
10kV steel core aluminum cross-linked polyethylene insulated overhead cable
Features
Steel Core Aluminum Conductor
1. Improved mechanical strength
The design of steel core aluminum conductors combines the electrical conductivity of aluminum with the high mechanical strength of steel. The steel core provides excellent load-bearing capacity, allowing the cable to resist external mechanical stresses such as tension, wind, ice and snow in long-span overhead installations.
2. Reduce weight and installation costs
Although the steel core provides strength, the lower density of aluminum makes steel core aluminum conductor cables lighter than pure copper or steel conductors.
3. Higher conductivity
The aluminum conductor itself has high conductivity, while the steel core mainly increases mechanical strength. Therefore, steel core aluminum conductor cables can provide better current carrying capacity.
4. High cost performance
Compared with copper core cables, steel core aluminum conductors have a higher cost performance. Aluminum costs much less than copper, and it is lighter and has lower installation and maintenance costs.

Want to learn more? Check out our electrical cable most frequently asked questions.
What are the applications of 10kV steel core aluminum conductor XLPE insulated overhead cable?
This cable is suitable for overhead power lines with a rated voltage of 10kV and is widely used in urban power grids, industrial areas, rural power transmission, and renewable energy projects (such as solar and wind power systems). It is particularly suitable for use in long-distance, high-voltage power transmission processes, and can ensure a stable and safe power supply.
What are the advantages of steel core aluminum conductors compared to other conductors?
Steel core aluminum conductors combine the lightness and conductivity of aluminum with the high mechanical strength of steel, allowing the cable to withstand greater external pressure (such as wind, ice and snow) while ensuring high current transmission. It is light in weight and high in strength in overhead power lines, easy to install, and can effectively reduce infrastructure and maintenance costs. In addition, it has strong corrosion resistance and is suitable for various harsh environments.
What are the advantages of XLPE insulation materials?
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation materials have excellent electrical properties, heat resistance, anti-aging ability, and chemical stability. XLPE can withstand high temperatures (up to 90°C) and provide extremely high dielectric strength, so that the cable can still maintain good electrical isolation in high-voltage environments, ensuring the safety of power transmission.
What is the operating temperature range of 10kV steel core aluminum conductor XLPE insulated overhead cable?
The operating temperature range of this cable is **-20°C to +90°C**, which can adapt to a variety of extreme environmental conditions. Whether it is hot summer or cold winter, the cable can maintain stable performance and adapt to complex climate changes.
How to correctly install 10kV steel core aluminum conductor XLPE insulated overhead cable?
During installation, ensure that the minimum bending radius of the cable meets the regulations:
When the cable outer diameter is less than 25mm, the minimum bending radius is 4 times the cable outer diameter (4D);
When the cable outer diameter is greater than or equal to 25mm, the minimum bending radius is 6 times the cable outer diameter (6D).
In addition, the cable needs to be protected from excessive stretching, wear or mechanical damage during installation. Before installing the cable, it is recommended to check whether the cable is intact and follow the corresponding standards and guidelines for construction.
What are the test requirements for 10kV steel core aluminum conductor XLPE insulated overhead cables?
According to relevant standards, 10kV steel core aluminum conductor XLPE insulated overhead cables need to undergo electrical performance tests before leaving the factory.
Cables rated for 10kV are subject to 18kV high voltage tests for 1 minute.
In some cases, voltage tests on single-core cables are conducted after the cables have been immersed in water for 1 hour.
These tests ensure the electrical insulation performance and overall safety of the cables, meet international standards, and ensure reliable product quality.
