Overhead lines are relative to cables. They are lines that transmit electricity by erecting wires at a certain height through poles and towers. The insulation of overhead lines from the ground in high-voltage transmission and distribution networks generally relies on air. In the past, distribution lines (below 10kV except 380V) generally used bare wires. However, due to the complex distribution environment in urban areas, short circuits and lightning strikes often occur, reducing power supply reliability. Therefore, overhead lines below 10kV generally use insulated wires (that is, the wires are wrapped with an insulating layer), which are called insulated overhead lines.
