G-GC Mining Cables Structure
Type G-GC cables are designed with three main phase conductors, two smaller ground wires, and an additional ground check wire, all wrapped together in a circular arrangement and protected by a durable CPE (Chlorinated Polyethylene) jacket.
The cable consists of three phase conductors, typically color-coded red, white, and black. These conductors are made from fine strands of soft-drawn copper, which are arranged using a rope-lay stranding technique to enhance flexibility. The conductors are insulated with synthetic rubber, specifically ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), which provides excellent durability.
Two ground wires are included in the cable, made from pure copper strands. These are smaller in diameter compared to the phase conductors and are insulated with green EPDM for easy identification.
The ground check wire is used for monitoring the integrity of the ground circuit. It is easily recognizable by its yellow insulation. This wire helps detect any issues in the ground system by passing a current through it and the ground wires. If a failure occurs, the ground check circuit is interrupted, causing the circuit breaker to trip and protect the system.
The entire cable is wrapped in a compression-molded chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) jacket after extrusion. CPE offers superior resistance to oil, water, abrasion, and crushing, making the cable highly durable in demanding environments. Additionally, non-wicking fillers and binders are used to ensure the cable maintains a consistent, uniform circular shape.
