Proper Cable Storage and Transportation: Essential Tips for Quality and Safety

For cables, proper storage and transportation are just as important as the quality of the product itself. Improper handling during storage or transportation can cause serious damage that can affect the safety and performance of the cable. 1. Keep cables away from corrosive substances

When storing cables, it is important to keep them away from any corrosive substances, such as acids, alkalis, and mineral oils. These chemicals can damage the insulation and metal parts of the cable, causing performance degradation or even failure.

2. Avoid harmful gases in the storage area

Storage facilities should be free of harmful gases that can damage cables. Make sure that the storage environment does not contain gases that can corrode metal or damage the cable insulation. A well-ventilated storage area is ideal for maintaining the quality of the cables.

3. Store cables off the ground and protect them from inclement weather

Never store cables directly on the ground, especially outdoors. Exposure to moisture, dust, or direct sunlight can cause cables to deteriorate over time. If cables must be stored outdoors, make sure they are properly covered and off the ground. Also, avoid laying cable reels flat - always store them upright to prevent damage.

4. Rotate cable reels regularly

To ensure long-term quality, it is important to rotate cable reels regularly during storage. This is especially important in the summer, as humidity can affect the cables. Rotate the reels every three months in the summer, or at least once every season. When rotating, make sure the bottom of the reel is not exposed to moisture, which can cause the cable to deteriorate.

5. Pay attention to storage time

Cables should not be stored for long periods of time. The maximum storage period is usually 18 months, with a maximum of two years. After this time, the cable may begin to degrade, especially if it is not stored or maintained correctly. Always check the production date and use the cable within the recommended time frame to ensure optimal performance.

6. Handle cables carefully during transportation

During transportation, special care must be taken to prevent damage. Never drop the cable or reel from a height, as this can cause the insulation or jacket to crack. This is especially important in colder temperatures (around 5°C or below). Additionally, when lifting cable reels, avoid stacking multiple reels on top of each other. They should be lifted individually to prevent mechanical damage.


To secure cables during transport, use appropriate methods to secure and protect them. Whether transported by truck, ship, or other method, make sure the cables are properly secured to avoid movement that could cause collision or damage.
